These Adaptogenic Vitality Balls are a must have staple that our household is never without!

As we discuss in our online diploma in herbal medicine, adaptogens are one of the most important categories of herbal medicines in the world and they are particularly well suited to antidoting the stress, strain and fatigue of Western life. The benefits afforded by the regular intake of adaptogens are profound because they help to keep the body as a whole in a state of optimal balance and vitality. Many adaptogenic herbs are well known, such as the famed Ashwaghanda, Ginseng and Reishi mushroom.

These types of herbs are called adaptogens because they help our body to “adapt” to stressful or challenging states, partciualrly with regards to the functioning of our hormone and immune systems. As such they:

  • Help to buffer the body and mind from the damaging effects of stress

  • Reduce the secretion of stress hormones

  • Increase the secretion of our “feel good” hormones

  • Increase physical energy and vitality

  • Increase our physical and emotional resilience

  • Balance the female and male hormone system

  • Enhance immune function

  • Reduce the prevalence of infections

  • Strengthen and tonify the whole body

  • Facilitate better sleep

  • Slow down the ageing process

The great thing about adaptogens is that they are safe to take long term to help keep the body in tip-top condition. As such, taking them in capsules is easy but integrating them into recipes is even better because not only do you get all of the benefits of the adaptogens but also all of the other health promoting and disease preventing ingredients in the recipe.

Powered adaptogens can be added to porridge, mixed into smoothies or stirred into hot milky drinks, but the recipe below is our absolute favourite way of getting these herbal heroes into our body. These Adaptogenic Vitality Balls are loaded with superfoods, taste amazing and provide the body with a great daily dose of adaptogenic goodness.
