Wilderness Day Retreat

We are incredibly excited to announce the start of our unique wilderness day retreat. A powerful new, evidence-based movement labelled Primal Wellness (click HERE for more information about this) is unequivocally showing that the more time we spend outdoors in nature, the healthier we become, physically, emotionally and psychologically.

Undertaking activities such as walking, nature meditation, forest bathing, silent walking, sense alignment techniques or something as simple as an al-fresco picnic, provides perhaps the quickest, simplest and most sustainable approach for the optimisation of collective health in our society.

Scheduling time away from the usual busyness of our lives, to disconnect from all external pressures and all digital devices to truly reconnect with both ourselves and the natural world around us is something we feel absolutely passionately about and we are lucky enough to be living in a county where natural beauty abounds.

Our new Walking Wellness Days, which will roll on a monthly basis at various locations, will aim to proactively tap into these benefits by constructing a unique health boosting nature immersion day that will involve:

  • A gentle day walking around some of the most beautiful areas of Sussex, including Chichester Harbour and the South Downs National Park

  • Guided nature based meditations at a selection of secluded spots during the walk.

  • Learning how to increase our awareness and mindfulness of the natural world using tried and tested approaches

  • Enjoy an al-fresco wholefood, vegetarian lunch in a beautiful secluded spot, with fresh herbal teas and coffee

  • Experience “silent walking” to help de-clutter the mind

  • Educational talks about the science and evidence of nature immersion on physical and emotional health and wellbeing.

  • Edible and medicinal plant, flower and herb identification and overview where possible

  • An introduction and overview of “Forest Bathing” – a unique public health initiative from Japan which is showing how contemplative time in forests can significantly increase levels of Natural Killer Cells and other immune markers in the human body.

Who is this for?

This course is for anyone who would like to get out into the great outdoors and learn a variety of techniques that utilise nature to optimise overall health and wellbeing. This course is of particular relevance to anyone who:

  • Feels sluggish and tired

  • Lacks energy, enthusiasm and vitality

  • Is stressed or anxious

  • Feels like they never get any time for themselves

  • Wants to integrate some effective self-care approaches into their life

  • Loves being outdoors, enjoying all that nature has to offer

  • Wants a full day away from the internet, emails and social media

  • Is managing a chronic lifestyle based illness or condition

  • Is capable of walking for 2-3 hours (with regular stops, breaks and refreshments to include lunch)

 

What’s included?

  • Handouts to embed the techniques learnt during the day

  • Wholefood healthy vegetarian lunch, tea/coffee and whole food, sugar free snacks

  • All practical instruction (i.e. mindfulness sessions, walking mindfully instruction, educational talks, medicinal plant/herb usage, recipe cards etc)

Our first Walking Wellness Day is scheduled for the first day of Spring, March 20th, so why not start this powerful season of regrowth and renewal with some time out to rejuvenate, restore and re-energise.

 

Location: South Downs National Park

Meeting Point: Fox Goes Free, Charlton, PO18 0HU (please note we are not using the pub but just meeting out the front, however you are very welcome to enjoy a coffee or meal at the pub after the course has finished!)

Parking: Please park along the road outside the pub, do not park in the pub carpark.

Start Time: 10:00

Finish Time: 16:00

Ability Level: This day will involve between 2-3 hours of walking, some of which will be uphill. Please wear wellies, or walking boots and dress appropriately for a day spent outside. 

What to bring: A mug, fork, knife and an empty tupperware container (lunch box size), sufficient water for the day, a waterproof jacket or similar to sit on. 

Please note in case of poor weather the day may be postponed
